OUR MISSION
Hi—I’m Kris. I’m the creator of Raising Bilingual Babies, and if you’re here, you probably believe (like I do) that language is more than just words. It’s connection. It’s identity. And it’s something we can pass down—one story, song, and silly phrase at a time.
Why This Blog Exists
I built this site to help parents raise bilingual (or multilingual) kids with confidence—even if you’re not fluent, even if your family’s a mix of languages, and even if you’ve got zero time and a toddler who throws books. This isn’t about perfection. It’s about showing up every day with small habits that build something big.
There’s a lot of noise out there; some of it’s really academic, some of it’s way too fluffy. This blog is straight-talking, practical, and grounded in research—but written for actual parents with actual kids (and probably less sleep than we’d like).
My Story
I’m originally from the UK, now living in Guatemala with my Guatemalan wife and our bilingual daughter. We speak both Spanish and English at home, and like many families, we’re navigating how to balance languages, cultures, routines, and life—all while changing nappies and reheating coffee for the third time.
I’ve got a background in education, a passion for languages, and a deep belief that bilingualism is a gift—not just for our kids, but for us too.
If you want to know the who, what, why, where, and when of raising a bilingual child, I’ve laid it all out in our foundational posts. They’re honest, direct, and built around real questions parents ask—and they’re the best place to start if you’re new here.
How I Can Help You
This blog is packed with:
Practical guides and routines that actually work
Book lists, daily habits, and tips that fit into your real life
The benefits of bilingualism (backed by science, not fluff)
Advice on dealing with resistance, extended family disapproval, and late starts
Tools to build your child’s confidence—and yours too
Whether you’re starting from birth or switching strategies at age five, you’ll find something here to help you build a bilingual home in a way that feels natural, consistent, and joyful.
Why This Matters
Bilingualism isn’t just about learning two languages. It’s about helping your child feel proud of where they come from. It’s about giving them more tools to navigate the world. And it’s about strengthening family bonds—across generations, borders, and cultures.
You don’t have to be perfect. You just have to be intentional. And I’m here to help you do that.
Stick Around
Thanks for being here. Seriously. If you’ve got questions, stories, or a topic you want covered—drop me a message or leave a comment on any post. This space is for you.
Let’s raise bilingual babies—one day, one word, and one story at a time.
